Madeira Flower Festival 2021 will happen, exceptionally, in October of this year, between the 1st and 24th of October.
What is the Madeira Flower Festival?
The event is a tribute to Spring and flowers, but it is also a cultural event as it highlights Madeiran traditions, such as the performances of folklore groups, construction of magnificent floral carpets and various musical concerts and variety shows.
The Program of the Madeira Flower Festival 2021
The Madeira Flower Festival of 2021, as in previous years, has 2 days with main events, but until the end of the festival, there will be other activities. The 2021 program is as follows:

“Wall of Hope” – Saturday – October 2nd
On the morning of October 2, there will be the Children’s Parade, where children, dressed for the event, will parade to Praça do Município. In this place will be composed the mural of flowers symbolically called “Wall of Hope”.

Allegoric Parade – October 3rd
On the 3rd of October, Sunday afternoon, the streets of the city of Funchal will be filled with music, colour and perfume with the magnificent parade of floats perfectly decorated with various floral species and many special decorations.
The Allegoric Parade is the event that is most-awaited and that marks both visitors and residents of the island of Madeira. This procession has been taking place since the seventies (1979).
What other activities belong to the Event?
In addition to what has already been mentioned, the festival has other initiatives that can be visited during the event. These initiatives are as follows:
Flower and Regional Flavours Market – Central Plate Av. Arriaga
In this market, visitors and residents can get to know the various floral and decorative species that exist in Madeira. These flowers can also be purchased. Regional flavours will also be present through the local cuisine and typical drinks.
Flower Exhibition
The flower exhibition will take place at Praça do Povo, in the centre of the city, where the most beautiful examples of flowers produced on the island can be appreciated and evaluated. The flowers on display will be evaluated by a specialized jury and later distinguished the best flowers in the different categories.

Floral Carpets and Decorations
The construction of floral rugs is a tradition throughout the island. Its origin comes from religious processions. As they are of great beauty, the floral rugs are now present at the Flower Festival, contributing to the magnificent decorations of the city. Being much appreciated by the tourists who visit us.
Flower Concerts – October 7th to 9th
In the program, four musical concerts will be performed in different spaces of Madeira Island. These initiatives are intended to decentralize the festivities.
The concerts will take place in a unique environment, with great musical quality in a setting of unique beauty in the world, and still surrounded by Madeiran flora.
Floral Installations – October 21st and 24th
The wide variety of Madeiran flora helps with the artistic demonstrations that link the beauty of the flowers with Madeiran tradition and culture. Several floral sculptures enhance the beauty of city decorations, which are shared by our visitors. These decorations are present on Avenida Sá Carneiro, at the entrance to the Funchal Pier and next to the Legislative Assembly of Madeira on the last weekend of the festival.
Madeira Flower Collection – October 23rd and 24th
The flower party also aims to promote the regional fashion sector. It involves a large number of flower-inspired creators. This combination allows giving a touch of modernity and “glamour” to this tourist poster.
It will feature the presence of several fashion designers and will take place at Pier 8 (Cais 8).
